Campus Philly announces the
2003 Student Leader of the Year Awards for Greater Philadelphia

Robyn Raines, from Moore College of Art and Design, and Nafeesa Hunt Owens, from Thomas Jefferson University, received congratulations from Governor Edward G. Rendell and Mayor John F. Street

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Campus Philly, a Philadelphia area student-led initiative, has announced Robyn Raines as the Undergraduate Student Leader of the Year, and Nafeesa Hunt Owens as the Graduate Student Leader of the Year, for their contributions to the college student community in Greater Philadelphia. The award marks the culmination of a year-long movement to establish Philadelphia as a college town, following the fall 2002 launch of Campus Philly and the Greater Philadelphia Students Association.

In a congratulatory letter, Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street remarked, "Students such as you continue to keep our great City vibrant and young with new ideas that we need to grow and evolve. As a result of our intiatives, including the Philadelphia College Festival and Campus Philly, area students formulated the Greater Philadelphia Students Association. We look forward to seeing the group develop into a critical student leadership organization."

Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell noted, "Every year, tens of thousands of students graduate from Philadelphia area colleges, which host over a quarter million students in their classes. It is truly an exceptional honor to be chosen as the most outstanding student leader." A panel of student activities directors from five area colleges and universities selected the two winners, who were nominated by their school administrations.
