For the Record: Philly Gets Festive
While a smattering of events have been taking place since Tuesday, tomorrow (September 4) marks the true opening of the 2009 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe. For the 13th year in a row, the two week long showcase will overload the Philly area with various forms of performance art and art shows.
The 2009 edition of the Live Arts Festival will feature 16 shows with about half of the artists based in the Philadelphia area. From one man shows to comedy troupes, music-based performances to poetic readings, there is definitely something for everyone.
This year, 185 Philly Fringe shows will be self-produced by both hometown and regional artists. The Fringe gives these artists the amazing opportunity to present their work in a professional setting free from the pressures of a selection process, which means that us art lovers can expect to see some extremely outgoing, true and expressive work.
A few of the shows worth checking out: The Scene, 13 Most Beautiful...Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests, Like, So Totally 80s, Timejawn, Wawapalooza 3 and Zombie! The Musical.
The Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe runs until September 19. For show times and descriptions, ticket sales and more, visit livearts-fringe.org.
