FOR THE RECORD: A New Year means a new resolution
As another year comes to a close, the time has come to make that infamous New Year’s Resolution. Diet and weight loss? Become taller? Win the lottery? A beauty queen? Let’s be realistic, both you and I know that it is near to impossible to keep true to these resolutions. Two weeks into the New Year, these resolutions will be a thing of the past.
It’s time in ’09 to step away from the typical resolutions and try something more realistic not only benefiting you, but others. Take the time to volunteer at an organization or make the choice to donate. Whether it is locally or globally, there are millions of ways to call action and make a difference. Whatever your resolution may be… remember to be realistic and stick with it throughout the year!
Now that your resolution is made, get out there and enjoy the New Year Philadelphia style with the Mummers!

Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Make It a Day On, Not a Day Off
January 19th, 2009
Volunteer on January 19, 2009 during the MLK Day of Service, when tens of thousands of volunteers serve throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware in the largest King Day event in the nation.
Whether you're a civic organization or a group of friends, if you have an idea for a service project, you can participate in this year's event. Many of your schools will be hosting events, but if your organization wants to be involved and doesn't have a project in mind, you can register for volunteer opportunities through the United Way's website. Also, when you register your own project, you'll get free t-shirts and the ability to recruit extra volunteers. We encourage you to use United Way's resources at mlkdayofservice.org to make this January 19th a day to make a difference in your community. For Campus Philly's Day-of-Service guide, visit
