FROM THE EDITOR'S
DESK
FOR
THE RECORD: You
Know You Want One.
Internships.
The word is nearly enough to make one nervous. Some majors require it;
everyone seems to recommend it. They're right. After all, where else can
you get a preview of your future career?
I remember
doing my internship. Take it from me, it's one of the most useful tools
you'll walk away from college with. Having to get a job in the "real
world" can be intimidating enough, let alone doing so without any
kind of experience. My internship allowed for me to get hands-on experience
with journalism, having to meet with deadlines, communicate with others
and also helped provide me with clips for my portfolio.
Sure, an
internship can sound like a lot of work—and it is. I won't lie.
However, it's a satisyfing experience to look back on; you can make new
friends and get the chance to network. You can also get a taste of what
"life after college" is about. Don't wait until it's too late.
Start looking on places like www.careerphilly.com
and take advantage of the opportunities. Start building your resumé.
Your graduation date isn't that far away.

Sturges, Temple '08
