FROM THE
EDITOR'S DESK
This
is now: Uwishunu
U think you know? Uwishunu.
No, that’s not the tagline for an upcoming season of MTV’s Diary. It's the name of a new Philly blog, www.uwishunu.com, which plays on the same concept by letting everyone in on previously insider knowledge.
Although it’s run by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, it's not your usual advertising campaign. It's another example of how Philadelphia, which is set to become a city-wide wireless hotspot by the end of 2007, is capitalizing on new media to promote itself as a premier destination.
Uwishunu.com invites Philadelphians to blog about their favorite (or least favorite) stores, restaurants, music, nightlife, galleries, and outdoor activities. Through their in-the-know posts, citizens will become ambassadors for the city; and prospective tourists interested in an authentic Philly experience will be able to visit local favorites, not just the Liberty Bell.
Uwishunu.com is also a great way for Philadelphians to have a virtual conversation and make recommendations to each other. Don't you wish you knew about a cool, underground nightclub? Don't you wish you knew how to tell more people about that awesome pizza shop near your campus?
Now you do, at uwishunu.com.

O.A.R. with Gomez
Jan 24 @ Tweeter Center at the Waterfront
O.A.R. returns to Philly to play The Tweeter Center! The island-vibe roots rock sound of O.A.R. first developed in Rockville, Maryland in 1996 in the basement of drummer Chris Culos' childhood home. Since then, the band has recorded seven records and played in front of hundreds of thousands of loyal fans.
The year 2006 brought forth a slew
of new accolades for O.A.R. - selling out venues across the country, receiving a gold record, having a Top-20 radio hit, and winning an mtvU Woodie Award. O.A.R. will begin 2007 with a two-week tour that passes through Philadelphia for the the first time since last summer! Don't miss O.A.R. at the Tweeter Center on Wednesday, January 24 with special guest Gomez! www.livenation.com
