FOR
THE RECORD: Top
10 Ways to...
Classes are ending (insert random phrase of joy here). However, while
you may be excited to not have to wake up for a 9 a.m. class for sometime,
the end of classes also means...finals. This means late hours of studying,
writing papers, researching, completing final projects, etc.
I've noticed
that during finals, my procrastination skills are enhanced greatly. Always
curious, I asked around to find out what people's choice of procrastination
is. Here are the results:
1. Checking
the Internet...because someone might have changed something on
their profile in the last 3.68 seconds since you last checked.
2. Calling friends and family...perhaps even contacting
your old best friend from fifth grade, just to see how they're doing.
3. Cleaning: you can't study at the kitchen table if
you can't find it underneath all your hand-outs and textbooks, now can
you?
4. Shopping: you'll need some new #2 pencils for that
final...and that new book you wanted to read over break...and a new scarf
and...
5. Sleeping: you should be well rested for your exams,
right?
6. Cooking: how else are you going to know if it's healthy
if you don't cook other recipes to compare it with?
7. Organizing: you can't study without your classical
music, but you can't remember if the CD is categorized by genre, composer,
alphabetically or some other way. Better reorganize just to make sure.
8. Decorating: It is the holidays after all and a little
holiday spirit would brighten up your studying methods...
9. Going out: Your friends want you to go out for lunch...a
short lunch. A half hour won't hurt, right?
10. Diverting your focus: You know you should be studying
physics, but that 30-page paper due next week isn't going to write itself...you'll
just write the introduction and then back to work!

MLK Day 2008: A Day ON, Not A Day OFF
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day...Despite popular opinion, it's not just about no class and killer sales. It's about a man who never took a day off, and about living up to a legacy of caring for our communities.
