Where in Philly is the best place to spend NYE? What do people really think about the city’s mayoral campaign? When is that band you saw last weekend performing again?

These are some of the questions you’ve probably asked about the city you live in. Now, there’s a website dedicated to answering them.

If you think you’ve already experienced all that’s out there in the world of interactive social networking, you might want to think again. There is now a new site designed specifically with you in mind – by ‘you’ I mean Philadelphia, and by ‘new site’ I mean DigPhilly.com.

It’s hard to sum up what DigPhilly is in just one phrase – and that might be what’s best about it. It’s a blog-hosting website. It's a place to meet fellow Philadelphians; a forum for talking about important city issues; a means for finding out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about this city. The list goes on.

With the official launch date pushed from March to early April, Philly will have to wait a little bit longer before taking advantage of all these different features. In the meantime, visitors to DigPhilly.com can get a taste of what’s to come by checking out its temporary blog site.

What's most interesting about DigPhilly.com is that it’s designed to allow for personalized content in five different user sections: Learn, Do, Share, Find, and Shop. Through each of these portals, users can choose exactly what local news they want to see; find out what there is to do in the city based on their interests; share photos and videos; create their own blogs; look through classifieds for jobs; buy and sell in the virtual marketplace; and so much more.

“It was built for the users,” said Todd Rodeghiero of NBC-Universal. “You own it. You drive it. This is Philadelphia’s site.”

With the backing of parent company NBC-Universal, DigPhilly will continue in its large media campaign to reach its target consumers. Through web, print, radio, and street teams, it hopes to attract modern users who understand the importance of both an effective and a personal online experience.

While there are already some familiar Philadelphia-based social networking sites out there, this one is definitely worth taking a look at. DigPhilly brings another dynamic to the city and another player to the game. With so much to offer, it might not be so hard to pull itself away from the pack.

Check out DigPhilly's temporary blog site here.
