Carolyn

Carolyn Adams (Board Secretary)

Dr. Carolyn Adams is a faculty member at Temple University teaching courses in urban development and public policies to address urban and metropolitan problems. She has written numerous books and articles and co-directs the Metropolitan Philadelphia Indicators Project, which has created a set of social, environmental, and economic indicators that track important trends in the greater Philadelphia region. Dr. Adams has held a number of leadership positions at Temple University and currently serves as Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

   
Jane
Jane Antheil

Jane Antheil is Vice President for Enrollment & Student Affairs at Philadelphia University where she oversees the Division of Student Life, including residence life, student development, athletics, student activities, career services and counseling, as well as financial aid, undergraduate and graduate admissions.  She has been with Philadelphia University since 1994.

Jane received her undergraduate degree from Denison University, a master’s from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. in organizational processes from Temple University.  

Over her professional career she has worked in both small and large institutions, public and private, and beyond student affairs, has particular interest in planning and institutional research.

Joe

Joseph J. Cicala

Joseph Cicala is presently the Dean of Students at La Salle University in Philadelphia, and has been since July of 1998. Previous professional experience includes his position as Director of the Advising and Counseling Center at Philadelphia University from 1996-98, Counselor and Assistant Professor at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood, NY from 1992-96, Director of Career Exploration Services at the College of Arts and Sciences from 1990-92, and several other honorable positions dating back to his earliest position as Resident Director in the Office of Residence Life at West Chester University of Pennsylvania from 1980-1982. Joseph received his B.A. in Psychology at La Salle University in Philadelphia in 1979 and went on to receive an MS in Higher Education Counseling from West Chester Universtiy of Pennsylvania in 1982, and his PhD in Higher Education Administration from New York University in 1997, focusing his dissertation on The Relationship Between Student Involvement and Reflective Judgment for Students Attending a Community College. When he's not working, Joseph enjoys the theatre, films, writing, American comic books, and comic strip art. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Joanne C. Conlon, who is the Director of Student Academic Support at Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA.

 
Dianna Dianna C. Dale (Board Vice Chair)

Dianna Dale has over 30 years of Student Affairs experience. She earned a BA in Psychology and Sociology from Curry College in Milton MA and an MA in Counseling and Higher Education Administration from Seton Hall University. Dianna began her career in student affairs in 1976 at Curry College as Resident Director/ Assistant to the Dean. In 1977 she accepted the position of Assistant Director of Residential Living at Drexel University in Philadelphia where she spent over 25 years in a variety of student life positions. Dianna's tenure at Drexel culminated in her promotion to the university's senior student affairs officer position in 1996, Senior Associate Vice President and Dean of Students, where she remained until June of 2004. In August of 2005, Dianna joined the Harcum College community in Bryn Mawr, PA where she is presently employed as Dean of Student Affairs. Dianna is ABD in Drexel University's Ph.D. program in Educational Leadership and Learning Technologies and plans to graduate in spring of 2007. Throughout her career Dianna has remained professionally active presenting numerous programs and serving on the boards of professional organizations.
   
Carol

Carol J. de Fries (Board Chair)

Carol J. de Fries has over 15 years of experience in government and public affairs, and economic development. She is currently the Vice President for Market Development for the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, a private, not-for-profit Pennsylvania corporation, founded in 1958 by the City of Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce to promote economic development throughout the city. She manages PIDC's cultural, civic, and non-profit sector clients, including the Schuylkill River Development Corporation, the Delaware River Capital Corporation, and projects along the Parkway and Avenue of the Arts.

Most recently Ms. de Fries served for more than 7 years as the Executive Director of the Office of Government and Community Affairs for the University of Pennsylvania where she was responsible for advancing the University's interests with regards to the federal, state, and City governments, as well as community and civic organizations.  Before coming to Penn, she worked for Mayor Edward G. Rendell's administration for four years as the Special Assistant to the Director of Commerce for the City of Philadelphia. She helped create and manage the Philadelphia College Student Retention Committee, handled the department's public relations and marketing efforts, and worked on a variety of economic development projects. Prior to moving to Philadelphia, Ms. de Fries served as a federal Procurement Administrator for a DC-based international consulting firm for four years.

Ms. de Fries holds a masters degree in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Fels Institute of Government and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University where she majored in American Government. She serves as the chair of Campus Philly, a 501c3 organization aimed at retaining the region's college population. She also sits on the boards of: Girls Incorporated of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey; Young America PAC Alumni Board, a bi-partisan organization aimed at increasing the political activity of young professionals in Philadelphia; the Fund for Philadelphia, and the Newbold Community Development Corporation. In 2001, she was selected by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of Philadelphia's "Forty under Forty" to watch. Carol J. de Fries was born in Bethesda, Maryland and grew up on an historic farm in rural Howard County, Maryland."

 

Carol Fixman

Carol S. Fixman

Carol S. Fixman, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Education Fund. Under her direction, the Ed Fund is actively engaged in issues of school reform, teacher quality, college access and community engagement in support of public education. Dr. Fixman has held positions at Philadelphia University, Temple University and at the AACSB, the main professional and accrediting association for collegiate schools of business. Dr. Fixman received her Ph.D. and M.A. in German literature from Brown University, and her B.A. in Russian literature from Indiana University (Bloomington).
   
 

 

 

 

   
Jon Jon Grabelle Herrmann (Executive Director, Ex Oficio, Non-voting)

Jon is an import -- grew up in North Jersey and is perhaps never going back. He earned his undergraduate degree from Penn's Wharton School, where he was in charge of the major concerts, speakers and special events on campus. Jon lives in West Philadelphia, and has served in volunteer capacities for the City of Philadelphia's Children's Commission, Philly's More Fun Alliance (Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation), West Philadelphia cultural Alliance (Paul Robeson House), and Kol Tzedek Synagogue.

Several regional organization's have recognized Jon for outstanding community leadership, including the Philadelphia Business Journal's 40 under 40 (2005), Leadership Philadelphia's 101 Top Connectors (2006), and Philadelphia Eagles' 75 Greatest Living Philadelphians (2007, sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts!).
